They won't let you in the building unless you surrender your cell phone and don't take any pictures.

A litlte bit of the Parthenon deep in Texas in what used to be the Bexar land district of the Republic of Texas back in the 1840's. Pretty atypical courthouse

I was there for a divorce. It wasn't so bad. If you have all your stuff in order and all your paperwork, it's good. No phones, tablets, smart watches, or recording devices, and it's even better.

The structure is beautiful with the large columns and long stairway entrance. The main courtroom is very big and the well is spacious with all old oak counsel tables, chairs, judges bench with nice area for clerk and community service personnel. The security staff and Baliffs are all seasoned professionals and very nice folks. There are many very good criminal trial lawyers there which makes high level courtroom procedures a daily occurrence. The judges are a good mix of small town friendly and by-the-book professionalism. I have enjoyed practicing law there for the last 5 years. I particularly was honored to have practiced in the most Honorable Judge Barbara Walther's courtroom while she was still the presiding judge in the 51st Judicial District Court of Tom Green County, Texas.

I was visiting the Tom Green County Jail and not the court house. I have a nephew that was jumped by 8 grown men he was sent to the hospital and it is sad to say that when my nephew asked if they were going to check his head (since it was written on the sheet by the TGCJ nurse) they told him no, seeing he would get the same treatment in Jail then what he would get from us (Shannon Medical emergency room). Needless to say, my nephew received better care from the jail nurse than the city hospital. My low marking for TGCJ is for the jailers turning a blind eye in what was about to take place. I have a few friends and very few family members that can tell anyone that serving time out in jail is harder than serving time out in prison.
